Best Beaches in Mykonos when it’s windy: All the southern beaches (Psarrou, Paragka, Paradise, Super Paradise beach), as the winds usually blow from the north side of the island.
You can get the bus to reach the beaches in Mykonos, as most of them are 5 to 8kms away from Mykonos town. The bus station is called the “Fabrika” bus station, as it is in the area of Mykonos that is called “Fabrika”. There is also a second area from which the buses start, which is called “Old Port”. It is on the opposite side of Fabrika, at the entrance of Mykonos town. From the Old Port bus station, the buses will get you to Ano Mera, Kalafati, and Elia.
2. There are only 35 taxis on the island. During the peak season, July and August, it might be difficult to get one when you need it. The taxis are waiting at the “Manto Square” in Mykonos town.
3. All the beaches in Mykonos are free, public beaches. You don’t need to pay anything to enter and swim. You are also allowed to bring your own umbrella if you don’t want to rent an umbrella from a beach bar.
4. The beaches on the northern part of the island are vulnerable to the strong northern winds and are better for windsurfers. The beaches in the south part of Mykonos (Ornos, Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise), offer much better protection from the wind. Of course, everything depends on where the winds blow from. If it is a windy day, ask if it is a Northern Wind (most often) and go to the south beaches, or if it is a Southern Wind (Go to the Northern beaches).

1. Super Paradise Beach
Super Paradise beach is the most famous beach in Mykonos, in the past 30 years. Psarrou Beach has become the new hotspot, due to its popular Nammos Restaurant and beach bar but Super Paradise beach started the hype of Mykonos. The reason is that this was the place that everything was allowed. Nudists, gay couples, families, party people, hipsters…Everyone was and is still welcomed in this long, sandy beach. Super Paradise beach has a popular beach bar, which starts some wild parties in the afternoon. It also offers sunbeds, umbrellas and has a self-service restaurant.
Tip: Super Paradise beach is a different beach to Paradise beach. Don’t mistake the two ones! Bear in mind that another name for Super Paradise beach is “Plintri beach” and it used by the locals sometimes but everyone calls this beach by its international name, which is Super Paradise Beach.

During the summer, if you want to get a nice spot on the beach (umbrella/sunbeds) you have to come to the beach before 11:00 am. The parties start at 17:00, until the evening. How to Get to Super Paradise Beach from Mykonos town
There are four ways to reach the Super Paradise Beach from Mykonos town:
- Drive your own car (25 minutes). The parking outside of the beach bars at Super Paradise beach is free.
- Get a bus from Mykonos, at the Fabrika bus station. The bus ticket costs 5 euros.

There are two beach clubs/bars on Super Paradise beach: The gay-oriented Jackie O and the old and famous Super Paradise Beach Club.
2. Platis Gialos Beach (Platys Gialos)
Platis Gialos beach has a blue flag, which is a certificate of its clean waters and it is 5km away from Mykonos town. It has sunbeds, umbrellas, restaurants, cafeterias. From here, you can also get a small boat that goes to other beaches of Mykonos, and namely to Paradise, Elia beach, Agrari Beach and Super Paradise Beach.
Platis Gialos beach is family-friendly as the waters are pretty shallow and it has many great restaurants where you can eat, along the beach.
On the downside, Platis Gialos beach gets very crowded and finding parking is tough.

You can get to Platis Gialos with a car or a bus from Mykonos town. It is 5km or 15 minutes drive time.

Don’t confuse Paradise beach with the Super Paradise Beach. These are two different beaches. Paradise beach is not a “posh” beach and is frequented by younger people. This
Paradise beach has beautiful clean waters, a relatively long sandy beach, and the famous Tropicana Beach Bar, home of the equally famous Sasha, the Italian DJ and performer who runs the party at Tropicana every afternoon, wearing funny swimsuits. How to Get to Paradise Beach
You can reach Paradise beach by driving; Paradise beach is 5.8km from Mykonos town and around 15 minutes’ drive time. You can also get the bus from Mykonos Town or the small boat from Platis Gialos.
How to Get from Paradise Beach to Super Paradise Beach (car, taxi, bus or boat)
Even though Paradise beach is next to Super Paradise beach, it is not advisable to try and hike from one beach to the other. There is a steep hill and it is pretty tiring. The easiest way from Paradise beach to Super Paradise beach is to get the small boat that starts at Platis Gialos beach and travels through various beaches of Mykonos. You can get on board at Paradise beach and it will drop you at the next beach, which is the Super Paradise beach.
You can also drive from Paradise beach to Super Paradise beach. This is an 8km road and it will take around 20 minutes of driving time.

4. Paraga Beach
This is a great alternative to Paradise Beach but a little more exclusive to the beach club. This is one of the most popular beaches in Mykonos with a great view of the island of Delos on the horizon. For a lot of tourists, Paraga beach offers the best combination of ambiance, music, sea, services, and people. It’s not too posh and it’s not too “party” atmosphere either.
At Paraga beach, you will find the Kalua Beach bar, which plays lounge music until the afternoon and then throws a party.
There is free parking outside the Kalua beach bar, where you can pay what you want to the guy that handles the parking; e.g. you can give 5 euros as a tip.
If you get two beds at Paraga for the whole day, it will cost you 50 euros.
Tip: The food at Kalua beach bar is pretty expensive and you can save some bucks and still get an excellent food quality if you eat at the Tasos tavern, which is just next to Kalua beach bar at Paraga beach. It is open from 10:00 to 23:00 and you can call at +30 2289 023002 to reserve a table.
How to get to Paraga beach from Mykonos town
You can get to Paraga beach with your own car or by bus or taxi, from Mykonos town. Paraga beach is 5.6km from Mykonos town, which is around 17 minutes drive time.
The taxi cost from Mykonos town to Paraga beach is 15 euros, for a maximum number of 4 passengers per taxi vehicle.
Paraga Beach to Paradise Beach
To get from Paraga beach to Paradise beach you can walk (10 minutes walking time), or you can get the small boat that starts from Platis Gialos and stops at various beaches, including Paraga beach and Paradise beach. You can also drive from Paraga beach to Paradise beach, which is 2.3km and around 7 minutes of driving time.
If you choose to walk, don’t use the directions of Google maps, as it will guide you in the wrong way. Just walk on the footpath that exists along the beach.
Mykonos town to Paraga Beach with a Bus
There are two areas at Mykonos town from which you can get the bus that will take you to Paraga beach. The first one is the “Old Port area” and the second area is the “Fabrika” area. They are on opposite sides of Mykonos town. The bus from Mykonos town (Fabrika area) to Paraga, starts at 09:15 and runs every hour until 01:15 in the evening. The first bus from Paraga beach back to Mykonos town (Fabrika area), starts at 09:30 and ends at 01:30 in the evening and runs every hour (10:30, 11:30, 12:30, etc).
5. Elia Beach
Enter the largest beach on the island. This means that there is room for everyone – the water is amazing but if you are traveling with family members keep an eye out as nudism is fairly common.
There is a small part at Elia beach which is the gay area, where nudism is common.

Elia beach is 12km away from Mykonos town and you can reach it with your own car, a taxi or a bus.

6. Agios Ioannis
Visit a beautiful beach that is tucked away from most of the traffic, secluded but it is perfect for swimming and snorkeling while you enjoy the beautiful scenery.

7. Ornos Beach
This is a trendy and popular beach that is ideal for families. And there are lots of hotels around this beach so you can stay and play all in the same area! Ornos has a lot of nice dining places and cafeterias to enjoy a drink and get out of the sun.
The beach is organized and you can rent a sunbed and umbrellas (around 20 euros per sunbed), or you can just lay down your towel on the beach.
Ornos beach is on the south part of the island and offers great protection from the strong northern winds.

10. Panormos Beach
One of the most secretive beaches on the island, even with the amounts of tourists who travel to Mykonos, has been the perfect sanctuary for naturists.

11. Agios Sostis
Agios Sostis beach is an off-the-beaten-path beach, as it is not organized and not as popular and crowded as the “Superstar” beaches of Super Paradise, Psarou, Paraga, Paradise and Ornos. It is on the North part of Mykonos, so the water is pretty cold here, compared to the southern beaches of Mykonos.
There is no bus from Mykonos town to Agios Sostis beach, so you can only reach it by car (22 minutes, 7.6km from Mykonos town), or with a taxi which will cost around 15 euros (one way).
If you go to Agios Sostis beach, a tip is to go and eat to Kiki’s tavern, which is close to it. You cannot make a reservation there, so you will have to wait.
12. Lia Beach
Lia beach is pretty far from Mykonos, but it is a very beautiful and quiet beach which is why it is preferred mostly by families and elderly people and it’s ideal for kids who want to play. Getting to the beach is a little rocky and the water is a bit cooler than most of the other beaches on this list since it faces the northern part of the island.
13. Mersini Beach
Mersini beach can be found right next to Foko beach. Mersini is an amazing beach if you are in need of a place to relax and find unforgettable swimming. The beach itself is split up in two smaller beaches by large rocks which one would easily be able to climb over barefoot. A little further down the beach, there is also a surprise for those who like going on adventures…but fair warning, you will need strong legs and good shoes!
